Statue, 19th C. Bronzed plaster figure La Paix French bronzed plaster Napoleon 111 %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a large bronzed plaster edition of the Carrier-belleuse sculpture entitled 'allegorie de la paix' cast in the late 19th century (other editions of this figure are dated to the 1860-1870 period) and bearing the artists signature. Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was a prolific sculptor of busts, small groups and figures in a variety of materials including plaster, marble and bronze. This neo classical female figure is as relevant today as it was when originally sculpted in the 19th century, as a decorative artwork it can be incorporated into almost any scheme and look right, a testament to the artist.

The condition is excellent, it is a fine and detailed casting, the bronze patina is amazing, one is easily led to believe it is a metal rather than plaster version.

It stands 24 inches high on an 8-inch diameter base, it is extremely heavy and will be shipped by Door-to-Door special courier.

Important notes:

Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was a French sculptor best known for his Neoclassical, realist sculptures frequently depicting women in historic roles. Born on June 12, 1824 in Anizy-le-Château, France, Carrier-Belleuse started his amazing career at the age of 13 as an apprentice chisseler going on to be trained as a goldsmith's apprentice before attending the École des Beaux-Arts and working for the medallist David d’Angers. He first exhibits in the Paris show of 1850 before being recruited by Minton in England, he returns to France in 1855/56 and rapidly becomes the most famous decorator of the French Second Empire and the Third Republic period. He receives official orders for the Tuileries, The Louvre, the City hall, the Opera.

Working between England, Brussels, and Paris, the artist founded the Parisian Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, and is notable for employing in 1864 celebrated Modernist Auguste Rodin as his apprentice at the age of 24. Before his death on 4 June 1887, he was appointed (1875) the art director of the porcelain factory Sevres in Sevres, France, Carrier-Belleuse was awarded the title of officer of the Legion of Honour
