Sterling Silver Gilt Ciborium, Lidded Chalice
A very beautiful Sterling Silver and Gold-Gilt Ciborium, having a round body with hammered finish, a single band of rope decoration to the lid and a double band to the chalice. Hexagonal central baluster, and all sitting on a round pedestal foot base. Round lift-off lid with cast cruciform finial, with red central stone ( not tested, so I am listing as synthetic)
The design of this is a crossover between Arts and Crafts and Modernist.
Hallmarked:
The Leopards Head for London
The Lion Passant for solid silver
All are date letter "U" for 1955
Makers mark EEG for Edgar Ernest Davis
Weight:541g
size: 9” tall to top of finial, 5” diameter at the rim and 5 1/2” diameter at the foot.
Condition is excellent with just a very snug fitting lid no repairs. Surface scratches under the lid. Pin prick dent inside the bowl.
