Watercolour, 5.5"x9.5", signed and dated 1875

Engraver, landscape and architectural painter in watercolour. He was born in Sunderland and became a pupil of William Miller, a well known Edinburgh engraver. He later set up his own engraving business in Edinburgh before moving to London. In 1866 he sent an engraving of Henry Dawson's Westminster Palace and Abbey to the Royal Academy. By 1869 he had moved to York from where he sent a second exhibit to the RA of Tynemouth Pier by AW Hunt.

He was related to Joseph Crawhall from whom he recieved coaching and provided etchings for Crawhalls publications. Represented at The British Museum, Laing Gallery, Sunderland Art Gallery and York City AG.
