Victorian Silver Cuff Links, Burrows & Mills, 1896
Here we have an elegant Pair of Victorian Sterling Silver Cuff Links in the Art Nouveau style. The cuff links are long ovals linked with a single looped bar in the normal 19th century style. Each link has a chased design of flowers and foliage in typical Nouveau style. The cuff links come supplied in a modern gift box.
The cuff links were made in Birmingham by Burrows & Mills and date to 1896. Burrows & Mills registered their mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1880 and in Chester in 1882. Based at premises in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter they were jewellers and watchmakers and created some beautiful brooches and cuff links in particular. They remained in business up until around 1900 and possibly a little later.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each link is 2cm by 0.8cm and each pair extends 2.2cm. The set of cuff links, unboxed, weighs in at 7.7g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the back of the links, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the Gothic date letter w for 1896 and the B & M makers' mark for Burrows & Mills.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
