Victorian Silver Plated Table Salt, c.1880s / 90s
A stunning late Victorian silver plated large table salt dating to the 1880s or 1890s. It is wonderfully decorated around the rim with shell corners and scrollwork in between. There is a stepped base which is reflected in the design of the lid and the handle.
Condition of the table salt is generally good but there is one very small patch low down near the handle where the plate is rubbed. It still has its original blue glass liner but this does have a small chip on the left hand side of the rim. However this has been rubbed very smooth over time so it is quite safe. There is some salt corrosion to the silver plate below the blue glass liner but this is only to be expected after so many years and is not visible during use.
The table salt is a substantial piece measuring 9.8cm across, 7.9cm deep and 8.4cm high. It weighs 258g.
This would be a standout item on any dining table. It can be used for salt of course but would work equally well for ground pepper, cranberry sauce, redcurrant jelly, apple sauce or many other condiments.
Shipping in the UK is £5.50 by Hermes Tracked & Signed.
