Victorian Silver Salt Spoon, Birmingham, 1895 Victorian Salt Spoon
This is a Victorian Sterling Silver salt spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The salt spoon is made by the silversmiths Minshull & Latimer in Birmingham and dates to 1895. Minshull & Latimer were based, like so many Birmingham silversmiths, in Vyse Street, where the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is now located. They were active from the late 1880s into the early 1900s.

The salt spoon has no dings or dents and just the wear you would expect after 125 years of use. It is a good size for modern use and could be used for salt, pepper or other condiments on today's dining table.

The spoon is 7.6cm long and weighs a respectable 5.7g.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the gothic date letter "v" for 1895 and the M&L makers' mark for Minshull & Latimer.
