Vintage 1930s/1940s Large 22" English Teddy Bear
This lovely vintage bear has no maker's marks or labels, but he has the characteristics of a English bear, and is possibly made by Merrythought or Farnell. He has mohair fur with replacement fabric pads and a pronounced shaven muzzle. He has glass eyes, a black (faded) stitched nose and mouth, and black claw stitching to his feet and hands. He has webbed hand claws. He is fully jointed. He is hard stuffed and wearing a bowtie around his neck - we do not believe this is original. We believe him to date from the 1930s/1940s.
Condition Overall in very good condition, with some playwear consistent with age and use. His mohair fur is thinning in places and a little faded. The orange part of his glass eyes has deteriorated. He shows signs of restoration and repair - we believe his pads to be replacements and there are some signs of re-stitching. His legs joints are a little loose.
The approx. measurements are as follows
56cm high. Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
