Vintage Silver Candlestick, Broadway & Co, 1986
This is a smart Vintage Sterling Silver Candlestick in the Neo-Georgian style. The candlestick has a circular base, weighted for stability, with line decoration. The stem tapers outwards to a line decorated shoulder and then a short neck opens out into the urn shaped sconce with a line decorated rim.
The candlestick was made in Birmingham by Broadway & Co and dates to 1986. Broadway & Co was founded by William Benjamin Broadway in Birmingham in 1901. The firm quickly established a reputation for good quality workmanship and produced a wide range of silverware for personal and domestic use. The company, now called Broadway Silversmiths, remains under the control of the Broadway family to this day and still uses many of the original dies and tools from the early years of the company.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The candlestick is 10.4cm / 4.1ins high and 6.7cm / 2.6ins across the base. It weighs in at 116.7g / 4.1oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.
The hallmarks, around the rim of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter M for 1986 and the B & Co makers' mark for Broadway & Co.
