WMF Art Nouveau Silver Plated Basket Green Glass Lined Cream Jug, Circa 1900.

Despite the extraordinary production and output of WMF over the past hundred and fifty plus years, some items are truly rare finds and this creamer/milk jug is one such, possibly an Albert Mayer design, certainly one released when he was the director of the WMF Art Studio.

It is a first class example of Art Nouveau / Jugendstil Movement craftsmanship and design albeit encapsulated in this silver plated, plus original Chartreuse green glass liner, cream jug, produced in Germany by WMF at the start of the twentieth century (Circa 1900).

With a decorative silver plated pedestal basket, the bowl has a pierced apron band standing on a pedestal foot, and a stylized swan neck handle which has a unique locking mechanism to hold the glass liner in place.

This is a superb quality piece and to do it justice this was re-silvered to a premium quality of no less than 50 microns but more towards 100 microns of 999 grade silver. It is now offered as an "as new" item and one that will hopefully endure another 120 odd years of use.

Underside the pedestal, impressed letters WMF and EP are clearly marked. These marks were used from 1895 to 1903.
