Description

Silver and Mother of Pearl, early Victorian Fruit Knife.
Hallmarked for Sheffield 1843 - date letter - P
The maker`s mark - IO for John Oxley, Charles Street,
Sheffield.
A superb, large fruit knife in excellent unused condition.
The blade opens and closes correctly - snaps at 180 degrees,90 degrees, and snaps closed. It is improving as I clean
it and work the blade.

Attractive shaped Mother of Pearl scales to both sides, decorated with shell shaped crimping at one end. A vacant, oval cartouche in the centre of the MoP.
The blade is plain but for the thumb groove and the hallmarks.
Despite not having been used, it must have been dropped at some time whilst in the open position. There is the tiniest of chips in the MoP - see the centre of picture 4.

Superb unused condition, throughout. 166 years old.

Open length:- 158 millimetres / 6.22 inches.
Closed length:- 88 mms. / 3.46 ins.
Knife weight:- 27.9 grams.
