Newby of Kendal, 8 day Brass dial. The Mahogany case with a 'Gillows' style door. The quality of the case in workmanship and material suggests Gillows or a journey man.

Newbys are a well respected Kendal maker, they had premises in Stricklandgate. In the 1787 census there was mention of seven in the family, there was was father William and his wife, sons William, James.
There was a Christopher Newby who was apprenticed to Gillows who later made clock cases in Kendal.
