Early 19th Century West Country Example Of Penwork

Description

A good example of penmanship by Charles Printer (aged 14) who was a pupil at Mr Brickman's Academy in Worle, Somerset in an oak frame. Brickman advertised in newspapers of the time suggesting he had good success in his pupils going on to university. Brickman moved his Academy from Bristol to Worle in 1825.

Charles Printer (1812-1885), son of Isaac and Frances Printer (farmers of 176 acres), went onto to become a farmer himself, farming 300 acres and employing 2 boys.

Examples of such penwork, penmanship, were displayed to show the skills of the pupil.

The pen and ink example is a particulalry good example of this type of work. Dated, 30th Nov, 1826.
