Superb C18th Coopered Inlaid Serving Tray

Photos

Description

This lovely serving tray is an usual item. It dates from c.1780 and is constructed from mahogany with a coopered edge banded in brass. The tray has two scrolled mahogany carrying handles. The inside of the tray is superbly inlaid with floral decoration in the centre and a teaset around the edge. It is very well done and of lovely quality. We believe to have northern English origins.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, scratching and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall slightly faded. The inlay is faded / discoloured. There is a piece of inlay missing from the base of the coffee pot, and there is some shrinkage cracking to the inlay. Some of the edging pieces are loose, but all are still attached, and some of them have some wood. The base of the tray is slightly bowed / warped. There are some signs of old restoration. The metalwork is tarnished and dented and is loose in places. There are a couple of light ring marks to the inside of the tray.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 68cm long, 43cm wide, 7cm deep (to maximums).
