Description

This taxidermy fish is mounted in a natural scene inside a wooden and glass case. We believe it to be a perch. The tableaux is unsigned, but on the back of the case is some writing and an old newspaper article indicating that the fish was caught in 1905 when the banks of the Kennet & Avon Canal burst. The fish was apparently caught in a nearby field. The newspaper article is from the 1950s and is entitled 'Fifty Years Ago'.

Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age. The fish is nicely mounted in the case, but some of the surrounding plant life has moved and fallen. The case has some scuffing, scratching and wear, which is heavy in places. The wall-hanging fixings on the back are more recent than the case.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Fish - 32cm long
Case - 47cm by 32.5cm, 14.5cm deep (to maximums).
