Antique Map Engraving of Pocklington's Island 1800
Description
Artist - H. AshbyTitle - Pocklington's Island came to Lieut. Col. William Peachy in the Year 1796
Details - Antique engraving. Hand-coloured (or tinted). Shows the island, the fort, the church, the house, the battery and the boat house, as well as the Druid's Stone and the Druid Temple. The curved wording near the bottom of the engraving reads 'Pocklington's Island (late Vicar's Island) in Derwentwater, near Keswick, Cumberland. belonged to Joseph Pocklington Esq. of Muskham near Newark, Nottinghamshire.' Below the engraving are the publishing details. 'London. Published as the Act directs 16th June 1783. Republished with Additions as the Act directs 1 December 1788. Republished again with other Additions May 1st 1794. & Sold by P. Crosthwaite the Proprietor at his Museum Keswick. Republished with other Additions June 20th 1800.' Framed in a vintage frame, probably dating from the 1950s.
Condition - Overall in fair-good condition. There is some slight discolouration (tanning) to the engraving. The paper is creased down the middle and has a long closed tear to the left-hand side. There are a few brown foxing marks. The frame has some denting, chipping and wear and some paint loss. There is some writing and an old price on the back of the frame.

Frame - 30cm by 25cm, 1.5cm deep.
