Description

This antique pewter porringer has a shaped flat handle at either side. One of the handles is stamped 'Francois Villette'. Francois Villette was a seventeenth century engineer at the court of Louis XIV of France. We are not experts in pewter and we have no provenance for the piece, but it does appear to be a period item and we have no reason to doubt the stamp.

Condition Overall in good condition for its age, with some wear consistent with age and use. The piece is tarnished and grubby with some scratching and pitting as might be expected. There is a heavy scrape in the bottom of the bowl. The bowl is a little misshapen and has some denting.

23.5cm wide handle to handle, 15cm diameter of top of bowl.
