Victorian Painted Cranberry Glass Biscuit Barrel

Photos

Description

This superb cranberry glass biscuit barrel dates from approx. 1900. It is painted with lillies and water birds. The paintwork is thickly applied, and appears very similar to enamelling. It is beautifully done. The barrel has a nice shape and colour. It has a silver-plated top, lid and handle, although the plating is very worn and needs attention. There are no maker's marks visible.

Condition Overall in very good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There are some flaws in the glass as might be expected, and there are some blemishes and wear to the paintwork. No visible chips or cracks. As is mentioned above the silver-plating to the top and handle is very worn. It would benefit from being re-plated.

The approx. measurements are as follows
18cm high 11.5cm diameter of base.
