Description

This attractive miniature cheval mirror dates from c.1900. It was possibly made as an apprentice piece. The mirror has a brass frame with shaped top finials and swept legs. The mirror itself is shaped and bevel-edged, and has a brass back panel which is screwed on. The mirror frame is adjustable. It could be used without the mirror as a frame for a miniature picture or photograph.

Condition Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. Unfortunately the mirror glass is chipped to the bottom left-hand corner. The glass is also rough around the edges. The original foil backing of the mirror is wearing and has some corrosion resulting in some black spotting to the mirror. At some point a piece of tin-foil has been fitted behind the mirror to try and counter this, and this has not been attached in any way. The brass frame has some pitting and surface wear and grubbiness and would benefit from a careful clean and polish.

The approx. measurements are as follows
13.5cm high 8.5cm wide.
