Description

This lovely vintage trunk would make a nice blanket box, or with a bit of alteration, a lovely coffee table. It is of heavy construction and is made from leather with metal bindings, fixings, hooks and base. It retains its original heavy duty leather carrying handles. It has wooden supporting struts to the top and bottom. The inside of the trunk is lined with fabric. It retains its original brass catch. Near to the catch the leather is stamped 'N.I. 1943 CA891' and the brass catch is also stamped 'N CA885 [not sure of the number as this is worn]'. The trunk originally had some hand-written lettering and numbers to the top and front, which we believe is a name, address, and miliary number, but this has mostly been cleaned away at some point. Both sides and the back have a coloured military stripe mark - there was one on the front as well originally, although this has mostly been cleaned away.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the leather as might be expected, and there is some discolouration and staining, both inside and outside. There is some surface rusting to some metal fixings. As has been mentioned above some attempt has been made at some point to clean and polish the trunk and the lettering has been mostly rubbed away. The leather has a heavy scuff to the front. Some of the metal work is a little misshapen and has the remnants of some old paintwork.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 45cm high, 70cm wide (excluding handles), 47cm deep (to maximums).
