Description

This attractive desk stand is silver plated over copper and has a lovely serpentine shaped top. We would estimate it to date from the second half of the nineteenth century although it may be earlier. The top lifts up to reveal two glass inkwells with silver-plated tops with a small lidded compartment in between. At the front of the top is a pen rest, and there is a small drawer at the bottom. The stand has a lion's head handle at either side and is supported on small bun feet. There are no maker's marks. It is of lovely heavy quality.

Condition Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The silver-plate is worn away in places and the piece would benefit from being re-plated. There are a couple of areas of corrosion on the top to the left-hand side and some tarnishing. The drawer front is a little misshapen. The inkwells are stained and have some nibbling to the glass. They are missing their stoppers. The ring handles are a little misshapen.

The approx. measurements are as follows
21.5cm long, 10.5cm deep, 9cm high (not including handle).
