Description

This unusual Beecham's Pills cardboard sign dates from around the end of the nineteeth century. It has two metal-ringed holes at the top and was probably designed to hang above a counter in a shop. The statement across the bottom of the sign on the front reads: 'The Largest Sale in the World' and there is something else printed underneath this, which terminates in price of 25c (just visible beneath). So it may be that the sign was an American sign, adapted for use in the UK. There is a colour pictorial image on one side of the sign and plain black writing on the other side.

Condition: Overall in fair condition only. The sign has some damage. It is bent / warped and there is a large tear and abrasion going down from the top. The sign has some wear and damage around the edges. There is some loss and damage to the bottom edge near one corner and a larger area of loss to one top corner. The sign is overall grubby and discoloured and has some marks and stains.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
35.5cm high by 28cm wide.
