Description

This attractive tobacco jar dates from the first half of the nineteenth century. It is made from what we believe to be a lead and spelter mix and is heavy. It has an eight-sided design with cast decoration and a removable lid with an ethic figure head as the handle. The jar retains what we believe its original yellow / gold paintwork and what we believe to be its original press, which has a subtle etched geometric design to the top.

Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. It is a little misshapen and the top does not quite fit inside the base as it should. There is some denting, knocking and wear as might be expected and some surface corrosion in places. The paintwork is rubbed and chipped. The press is worn around the edges. The face handle is worn.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
13cm high, 13.5cm wide, 9cm deep.
