Description

This unusual matchbox holder on stand is engraved on the matchbox holder with a crown and RM & SP, which stands for Royal Mail & Pacific Steam Navigation Co. It is silver-plated and marked for Elkington plate just below the top, together with the date letter N, which we believe denotes the piece to have been made in 1925. The base was possibly intended to be used as an ashtray, or as a tray to hold the used matches. The piece is weighted.

Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The piece has some surface knocking, scratching and wear. It is tarnished. The silver-plated finish is worn away in the centre of the well of the base.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
9.5cm high 16.5cm by 9.5cm (base).
