Description

This lovely hand-painted miniature portrait brooch features a fine lady. We believe it to be of continental origin and to date from the first half of the twentieth century, although it is older in style. The portrait is hand-painted, probably on to china or celluloid, although as we have not removed it from the glazed mount we cannot be 100% sure. The picture looks to be monogrammed to one side. The mount is marked .800 for continental silver, and the piece may be of Italian origins. There is both a pin and a loop on the back so that the piece could be used as a brooch or pendant. We believe the mount to be original to the portrait.

Condition: Overall in very good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The silver is tarnished and the mount has some surface scratching and slight misshaping. The pin is bent. The portrait is a little grubby inside the mount.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
4cm by 3cm.
