Description

This attractive sarcophagus cellarette dates from the first half of the nineteenth century. It is constructed from mahogany, some solid, some veneered over solid wood. The cellarette is stencilled on the base for the maker and broker William Freeman - the stencil reads: 'From Freemans Manufacturers St Andrews Norwich'. The cellarette has a square tapering sarcophagus shape with a hinged lid. It has a lower divider inside with holes for six bottles (four large, two small), which may be a more modern addition. The piece is supported on turned bun feet with original hidden castors. The cellarette retains its lock, but please note that no key is present.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. No key is present and the castors are worn. There is a ring mark and some staining to the top. The lower divider inside looks to a more modern addition, and has some damage and splitting, and some signs of repair. The cellarette shows some signs of restoration and repair.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 49.5cm high, 64cm wide, 50cm deep (to maximums).
