Description

This antique saddle dates from around the late nineteenth century and was designed to introduce a child to riding a horse. It has a wicker seat with a soft underneath. The saddle is missing its straps but retains leather cup stirrups which are stamped with the maker Coppard of Tunbridge Wells. The seat lifts up to reveal a small storage compartment.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good display condition. It does have some wear consistent with age and use as might be expected, and it shows some signs of restoration and repair. The saddle is missing its straps and child's harness. One of the leather stirrups and its leather strap has been repaired, and there is some cracking to the leather-work. There is some fraying and some breaks in the wicker-work and one of the wicker hinges of the lift-up seat is broken. Some of the stitching underneath is loose. The piece is overall a little grubby and dusty and appears a little misshapen / lopsided.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 74cm high, 68cm wide, 36cm deep (to maximums).
