Description

This attractive rack was probably designed to hold sheet music, although it could also hold a magazine or a newspaper. It is designed to hang on the wall. It dates from the late nineteenth century. It is constructed from lacquered papier mache with floral decoration. It is not of heavy construction and could not be used to hold anything heavy. It has replacement ribbon to hold it open, but this is more for show than use and would probably benefit from replacement if the item was to be used. It folds flat.

Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some grubbiness, scuffing and wear as might be expected and some chipping and loss to the lacquered finish and to the decoration in places. The ribbon holding it open would benefit from replacement.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
39cm high, 29cm wide.
