Description

This antique cabinet looks to date from the late eighteenth century. It is constructed from solid oak and is probably an estate-made piece. It has undergone some alteration over the years, but it has clearly been mounted on the wall for a long time. The cabinet has two doors, which open to reveal a divided interior which has two adjustable shelves on one side and an open section over three small drawers on the other side. There were probably originally more shelves, but only two remain. The drawers have small ring handles, but one is missing and this drawer handle has been replaced with an old lace. The doors have had later handles and brass escutcheons fitted and the lock has been sealed so that it cannot be used. A small plastic stopper has also been fitted to hold the doors closed.

Condition: Overall this rustic piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, scratching, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall a little faded. The piece has undergone some alteration over the years - one of the ring handles has been replaced with a lace, and the doors have later handles, escutcheons and stopper. The lock has been sealed. There are some areas of wood loss in places.

The approx measurements are as follows:
58.5cm high, 98cm wide, 33cm deep (to maximums).
