19th C. Wool Tapestry Child Visits Captive Mother

Description

We are offering this Victorian Wool Tapestry, which has been worked in half cross stitch on stretched canvas. The Tapesty depicts a Christian woman wearing a blue dress and with a cross hanging around her neck, embracing her infant child through a barred, arched window in a stone wall.. Light appears to be entering her cell through a high window behind her and is falling on her head. The child has been brought to visit her mopther by a young women, who may be a relative or the child's nurse. To the left there appears to be a shutter which would close off the barred opening.

The tapestry has been newly glazed and framed in a 2 7/8" blaxk frame with warm highlights. It will be supplied with new brass hanger, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
