This is an English carved bovine bone, red and white complete chess set, in the barleycorn pattern. The details of the styling would indicate a mid 19th century set. The pieces came to us in a rustic, slide top wooden box ( possibly contemporary to the set although this can't be confirmed, however the set will be despatched with the box). We have endeavoured to supply as much detail in the photographs as possible, it is genuine in all regards , there is no repair,restoration and no replacements - we also have elected not to clean so as to retain the original patina.

Size: This is a larger piece set, with the King standing 4 inches (10 cm) and the pawns are 1 1/2 inches (4 cm)

Condition is very good, a couple of age related faults but nothing that is not to be expected with a delicate set of this age. Buchanan and Laing Galleries are a private client business. Appointments can be made by arrangement via email.
