2 George V Silver Toast Racks, Hukin & Heath, 1930
Here we have a fine quality Pair of George V Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Racks. The toast racks have rectangular bases with rounded corners which sit on four bun feet. They have five arched dividers with an ornate finger ring handle on the central one. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The toast racks were made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Hukin & Heath and date to 1930. Founded in Birmingham by Jonathan Hukin and John Heath in 1855, the firm is best known for its collaboration with Dr Christopher Dresser and their exhibitions of his groundbreaking designs for them at their London showroom. Hugely successful, the firm remained in business producing a broad range of consistently top quality silverware up until 1953.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 90 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each toast rack measures 8.9cm / 3.5ins by 6.3cm / 2.5ins and stands 9.6cm / 3.8ins high. The pair together weighs in at a very substantial 223.5g / 7.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the bases, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter F for 1930 and the distinctive H & H makers' mark for Hukin & Heath.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast racks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
