Arts & Crafts Rocking Chair by Dicon Nance
A rare Arts & Crafts ladder back rocking chair c1950's by Dicon Nance of St. Ives (1909-2002). Made of Ash with a woven seagrass seat. Dicon and his brother Robin set up a cabinet making workshop in St. Ives, with their furniture influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement to embrace a modern aesthetic, always underpinned by fine materials and traditional craftsmanship. Ladder back chairs first developed by Ernest Gimson and the Cotswold group of Arts & Crafts furniture makers were manufactured by Dicon in St. Ives playing an important part in establishing the workshop. Dicon went on to work with designer and sculptor Dame Barbara Hepworth.
The rocking chair is in good condition, no damage or repairs. Signed DN (seen on image).
103cmH x 70cmD x 57cmW
38cm Seat Height Our stock items are carefully selected by myself and I only buy good quality items which may need small repairs, a clean and a polish. I don't buy any items that need major restoration, but any loose joints are re-glued. Occasionally, some items may have small amounts of historic extinct woodworm, never enough to affect the integrity of the item, and is always treated as a matter of course. We try to describe and show our items the best we can, and we use studio lighting which sometimes lightens the colour slightly on some of the furniture. All lamps are rewired and PAT tested. Every item we sell we would have in our home (some of them have been!!) It is impossible to describe every item fully, so please feel free to email or call for more information or any queries you may have. The items will have no major defects but will show signs of normal age related wear and use. I would prefer the items to show its life rather than strip it and re-polish it, as it's only original once!
