This is a fine early 17th century map of Kent on handmade laid paper with early colouring engraved by William Kip after a survey by John Norden, circa 1607. The cartouche with the title "Cantium Quod nunc Kent", distance scale bottom left, the cartouche containing the list of Hundreds top right and compass rose bottom right are all coloured, as are the Hundred boundaries and town and city symbols (in red).

Dimensions: Frame - 47 x 37.5 cm
Map including margins - 39 x 32 cm

Condition: The map is in good antique condition with a uniform patina and some minor foxing. Top and bottom margins are wide, side margins are relatively narrow as is typically the case with this map, and there are folds as published. Though not removed from its late 19th to early 20th century oak frame it appears to be stuck on card. A hand-written label at the foot of the map incorrectly dates it to 1515.
