George III Silver Salt Spoon, J Legg, Exeter, 1804
This is a fine quality George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The spoon has the initials J V elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.
The salt spoon was made in Exeter by silversmith John Legg and dates to 1804. John Legg was a specialist spoon and flatware maker who operated in Exeter between the late 1790s and around 1815. His mark is most commonly seen on condiment spoons but he did make flatware of all types and sizes.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 220 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt spoon is 10.4cm / 4.1ins long and weighs in at 11.3g / 0.39oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are somewhat rubbed but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the Exeter date letter H for 1804. the George III duty mark and the J.L makers' mark for John Legg.
Shipping in the UK is £5.00 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
