George Jones Majolica Shell Dish 1870 british brown %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
George Jones Majolica Shell Dish. A rare dish from the great George Jones. This majolica dish is in the form of a shell. The handle has been brilliantly sculpted to resemble coral bordered by some green bladderack and attaching to a shell overlay. The glaze of the bowl is a vibrant turquoise colour evoking blue ocean waters. The underside is glazed in the traditional majolica colours of green, brown and yellow. The George Jones double Gord stamp can be found to the base. There has been a small amount of professional restoration of approximately 2cm to the side of the dish otherwise the piece is in good condition with only age related signs of wear. Circa 1870-1878.
1870, Ceramic , British.
