Vintage Cased Cloth-Backed Ordnance Survey Maps
This set of vintage Ordnance Survey maps of Great Britain are the stated fourth edition. They are complete and encased in two slipcases, one for the maps of Scotland and one for the maps of England and Wales. They were published in the 1940s and are cloth-backed. There are eighteen maps in total. The England and Wales set are numbered 1-12, although there is no number 5 - please note that this is not missing, from looking at the index on the back of the maps a number 5 for England and Wales was never produced. The Scotland set are numbered 2-9 - again please note that number 1 is not missing, the number 1 in the England and Wales set covers the border and so belongs to both sets. Numbers 8 and 9 are in one map.
Condition Very good condition. Contained within their original pair of cloth covered slipcases with paper labels. The slipcases are quite worn and may be missing their lids (if they ever had lids none are now present). The England & Wales slipcase has some fraying to the cloth on the front and both slipcases have some wear and fraying to the cloth around the corners and edges. Both are a little squashed. The Scotland paper label has some loss to one corner and both labels have some edgewear. The Scotland slipcase has some splitting to the top edge. The maps themselves are in very good condition and retain bright covers, although all the covers are a little tanned / discoloured. The map covers all have some wear around the edges, and this is worse to some maps than others with some crumpling, creasing and small tears. The internal cloth-backed maps do have some wear consistent with age and use and there are some creases and small nicks, but they are mainly in good, clean, bright condition.
