This powder compact is suitable for modern loose face powder or as a handbag mirror.
A vintage Kigu compact. Made in the early 1960s. It is featured in the Kigu 1963 catalogue and named 'Minerva' "53-22B" and described as follows 'This compact of gilt "honeycomb" engine turned design gains in beauty from the black background'. This model of 'Minerva' is indeed beautiful - the black enamel provides such a striking background for the gilt honeycomb design. The central cartouche could be engraved if desired. The whole compact is in excellent condition. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives a good clear reflection. The inner lid is engraved and has the typically beautiful 'all jeweller's gilt finish' & a honey comb design similar to the lid. The powder well lid is signed 'KIGU' within the triangular registered trademark. The original sifter is in place and it is in good condition. The base has guilloche engraving and reflects the goldsmith's tradition of Kigu.
This compact measures 8 cm & weighs 103.5 grams.
