Vintage Silver Egg Cup & Spoon Set, B'ham, 1968/9
This is a stylish cased Vintage Sterling Silver Egg Cup & Spoon set from the 1960s. The cup and spoon have the smooth lines associated with classic mid-century design. There are no initials or inscription of any kind making this ideal as a gift.
Both pieces were made in Birmingham. The egg cup is marked for S.J. Rose & Son in 1969, whilst the spoon is marked for Cohen & Charles in 1968. It is likely that they were put together by a retailer in the late sixties to make the set as they are very much in the same style.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over fifty years. The box is a little scuffed around the clasp but otherwise in good condition with both the clasp and hinges in working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The egg cup stands 6.1cm / 2.4ins high and is 4.3cm / 1.7ins in diameter, whilst the spoon is 11cm / 4.3ins long. The pair together weigh in at a respectable 40.5g / 1.4oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on both pieces are well struck and clear to read. On the egg cup they show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter U for 1969 and the S.J.R makers' mark for S.J. Rose & Son. On the spoon they show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter T for 1968 and the C & C makers' mark for Cohen & Charles.
