19th C. Opera Glasses Mother of Pearl Italian Opera Glasses Italian Silvio Piancastelli %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
We are pleased to offer this cased, lightweight pair of Italian mother of pearl and chased aluminium opera glasses circa 1890. They were made by Silvio Piancestelli, who was an optician and photographer and had a business at No. 1 Via Degli Stozzi in Firenze (Florence). He was made a Member of the Italian Photographic Society in 1890 and was still trading in 1915.

The opera glasses are made of beautifully chased aluminium and are adjustable by the means of the central wheel which enables them to be focussed. The use of aluminium also makes them lighter than brass examples. The eyepieces and body of the glasses is made of mother of pearl.

The case is in blue leather, with a handle and a blue satin lining and the name of the maker is stamped inside the lid in gold. The glasses and case are in full working order.
