Here we have a very fine quality set of six heavy late Victorian Sterling Silver Teaspoons with a Chester hallmark. The teaspoons are in the traditional Old English pattern and have a monogram engraved at the top of the stems made up of the letters ASEB.

The spoons are made by Stokes & Ireland and assayed in Chester in 1896. Founded by William Stokes and Arthur Ireland in Birmingham in 1872, they became Stokes & Ireland Ltd in 1892 and were finally taken over in 1925. Like many Birmingham silversmiths, they would send some of their smaller pieces to the less busy Chester office to be assayed and marked.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoons are each 13.6cm / 5.3ins long and the set of six together weighs in at a very substantial 140.7g / 4.96oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. The show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter N for 1896 and the S.I.Ld makers' mark for Stokes & Ireland Ltd.
