Edwardian Silver Salt Spoon, H. Williamson, 1910
This is a good quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The bowl of the spoon is lightly gilded and there are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The salt spoon was made in Sheffield for Henry Williamson Ltd and dates to 1910. Henry Williamson opened his first premises in London's Farringdon Street in 1879. The firm expanded to became Henry Williamson Ltd in 1894, opened a manufacturing premises in Spencer Street, Birmingham and also commissioned pieces from Sheffield to run alongside the London showroom. They specialised in small silverware items for the dining table, the dressing table or for personal use. The company finally ceased trading in the late 1920s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 110 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt spoon is 8.3cm / 3.2ins long and weighs in at 7.4g / 0.26oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter s for 1910 and the H W.Ld makers' mark for Henry Williamson Ltd.
